R. Ann Myers, MSW, ACSW
Professor and Head
Department of Social Work
James Madison University
Harrisonburg, VA

Social work education accounts for 31+ years of my professional life. At James Madison University I served as program coordinator for six years and have been head of the Social Work Department since 1987. I served for seven years as secretary-treasurer of the Virginia Social Work Education Consortium, co-founded the JMU Community Service-Learning Center, and am a CSWE certified site visitor chair. I served as a BPD Member-at-Large 1999-2002, chaired the BPD Archives and History Committee 1999-2002 and continue as a committee member, was a founding member of the BPD Gerontology Advisory Committee 2001-2003 and am currently on the Gerontology Committee.

During these years I have been involved with various professional and academic organizations but my involvement with BPD since 1985 has been the most valuable. Whether dealing with accreditation issues, program administrative concerns or curriculum review, the BPD Annual Program meetings and the contacts made through BPD have been consistently helpful.

I am pleased to run for a member-at-large position and hope to engage in a partnership with my colleagues that will continue to strengthen baccalaureate social work education. Areas of interest and strength that I have regarding the position with BPD are interrelated. I am particularly interested in developmental programming for program faculty and administrators, collaboration with graduate schools of social work regarding the fit between BSW Graduates and Advanced Standing Programs, and assessment and innovative approaches in social work education.
