Web Sites Related to Gerontology

Since the theme of this issue is Gerontology, members of the BPD Gerontology Committee were invited to send me web sites related to Gerontology. Mit Joyner, Committee Chairperson, and my fellow members of the BPD Gerontology Committee provided a wonderful list of web sites, which have been organized alphabetically here.

AGHE Site on Career Tracks in Gerontology
This site also includes publicity for events, and institutions wishing to use this site should contact Heather Richards at hrichards@geron.org or 202/842-1275.

Aging: Concepts and Controversy
This web site provides links to other web sites that discuss controversial policy issues related to aging.

Alzheimer's Association Web Site
This web site includes information about Alzheimer's Disease, including a "Diversity Toolbox", a resource list of relevant publications, and opportunities to become involved or to volunteer. You may also e-mail info@alz.org or call 312/335-5790.

American Association of Retired Persons (AARP)
A wide range of resources related to aging will be found on this web site. One page on this site (http://www.aarp.org/life/) has information about older adults raising grandchildren, end of life issues, grief and loss, caregiving, housing, and legal issues.

American Society on Aging (ASA) and National Council on Aging (NCOA) National Conference, April 14 - 17, 2004 in San Francisco
One major topic is "A Multicultural Vision for Eliminating Health Disparities"

Archstone Award for Excellence in Health and Aging Program Innovation
This award is offered by the American Public Health Association, with support from the Archstone Foundation (http://www.archstone.org/). The award is intended to identify best practices in health and aging. The winner is awarded $1000 to attend the Annual Meeting of the American Public Health Association, which will be held in Washington, DC from November 6 to 10, 2004.
