Mid
Atlantic Regional Meeting
Over a dozen BPDers attended the Mid Atlantic regional
meeting in Destin. Topics of discussion included licensure issues, gate keeping/disciplinary issues with
students, unification of the profession, and EPAS. Participants indicated that the conference workshops
were very good and expressed appreciation for the Town Hall meeting. There was a suggestion that perhaps
the regional groups should be revitalized and have more of a voice in BPD. It was noted that the formation
of a Mid Atlantic Field Directors Consortium has been a positive development for the schools involved.
Pennsylvania’s bill to license BSW’s led to discussion about licensure in various states
including CEU requirements, title protection, and macro-practice. Participants from Maryland and Virginia
shared information about their states.
Issues
with students and admission into the Program and Field were also topics of discussion. Participants offered
examples of admissions approaches and gatekeeping and disciplinary issues. It was noted that admissions interviews don’t
predict field behaviors. It was suggested that more workshops on these issues (including more actual student
situations) might be helpful.
The participants also provided written
comments regarding EPAS .
