BPD
International Committee
Spring Update report
April 15, 2008
Over 50 people attended this year’s BPD International Committee meeting at the annual conference in Destin.
Many of those in attendance were new to international social work education, while a sizeable group were also BPD International
“old-timers,” having been involved in international programming for several years. After the
Destin conference, we added all those who attended to the BPD international listserv, which continues to be graciously
hosted by Dr. Tim Rehner and the University of Southern
Mississippi. (To be added to the BPD International listserv, please email Tim at tim.rehner@usm.edu.)
Our workplan for this
year includes the following:
- With colleagues from
other BPD and CSWE leadership areas, conduct and analyze a survey of international programs in baccalaureate social work programs
nationwide;
- Continue to pursue the possibility of delivering the BPD Global Faculty Institute,
a proposal which we have presented to the BPD Board of Directors;
- Update the BPD website
and international program directory;
- Develop and present a set of “beginning,
intermediate and advanced international educators” presentations/symposia for next year’s BPD conference
- Increase
(and when necessary, formalize) linkages between BPD International and CSWE Global Commission, NADD, SSWR and other social
work education organizations
Current BPD International co-chairs are Drs. Lisa
Avery (Eastern Washington
University; lavery@ewu.edu) Robin Mama (Monmouth
University; rmama@monmouth.edu) and Dennis Ritchie (George
Mason University;
dritchi1@gmu.edu). We are all longstanding participants
in international education and share a commitment to helping solidify social work education’s international content,
programs, and ethical standards. Please feel free to contact any of us if you have questions about BPD
International.
