Conference Registration: Stacy Barrentine will continue to provide conference registration service to BPD. The conference registration form will be available on the BPD web page after April 15, 2003. A link to
that website appears at the end of this article.
Preconference Workshops: The 4th Annual
Excellence in Leadership pre-conference workshops will be held on Wednesday October 29, 2003 for program directors
and field educators. Some shared sessions are planned (tentatively on gatekeeping,
grant writing, and BSW leadership in public service), as well as breakout sessions for new program directors, seasoned program
directors, and field educators. Be sure to check the registration form for details regarding any workshop–related materials
fees involved. Also, there will be an additional charge for the preconference luncheon for those who wish to attend.
Proposed Pre & Post Conference Tours: Given
its close proximity to Lake Tahoe and the Sierra Nevada mountain range, Reno offers a unique opportunity for you to include
an unforgettable day of hiking or sightseeing in your itinerary. The local planning committee is working with Convention Activities,
a destination management company, to develop several different pre- and post- conference excursions, as well as a unique dining
opportunity for Thursday evening. Complete details will be posted on the BPD web page as of April 15th.
The Not So “Silent” Auction: During the past 2 years
we have held both “Silent” and “Live” auctions to help
support the Ron Federico Memorial Lecture. In recent years, the “silent,” component of this fund raising effort has achieved rather modest success. This circumstance, coupled with the labor-intensive nature of the activity, has prompted a decision to
omit the “Silent Auction” from this year’s program. We are
planning, though, to continue the “Live Auction” activity, so we ask that you plan on bringing, as you have in
previous years, a quality item for inclusion in this event! All dollars
raised help support the Ron Federico Memorial Lecture.
Health and Wellness: As in previous years, the local planning committee is assembling an array of health
and wellness activities and workshops from which you can choose. So, be sure
to pack your tennis shoes and workout clothes!
Student-Related Events: All student-related “calls”
(e.g., Doctoral Showcase, Wahlberg BSW
Student Scholar, and Undergraduate Student Volunteer Form) will be posted to the BPD
Website by June 30th. We ask that you watch for these materials and
encourage your students to apply.
Hotel Information: The conference hotel is the Reno Hilton. You will find the hotel registration form on the
BPD web page. The room rate is $99 ($10.00 for each additional person). Sales
tax is currently 12%. You can make reservations by calling or writing the hotel room reservation department listed on the
form or by calling Hilton’s toll free number 1-800-648-5080. Be sure to
request the group rate for the Association of Baccalaureate Social Work Program Directors (Group ID: ABSWPD). To ensure your accommodations, reservations should be made no later than 09/28/03. As in previous years, we ask that you don’t reserve rooms you do not need and,
if you have to change your plans, please cancel room reservations as soon as possible.
Airport Shuttle:
For your convenience, the Reno Hilton provides complimentary airport shuttle service to and from the hotel.
Travel Arrangements:
Reno is a popular weekend “getaway”, so airline seats tend to fill quickly. To ensure the best routing and seat
accommodations possible, you’re encouraged to make your travel arrangements early.
Ongoing Information: As our program develops, we will continue to post information to the BPD web page. Please continue to refer to it for up to date information including days and times
of paper presentations, convener assignments, special sessions, accreditation workshops, meetings and special events. Expect
the preliminary program to be mailed by mid-July to the address noted on your BPD membership.
