Putting my name in the ring for Treasurer-elect was a difficult decision. This position, from what I have read and heard from those who have been in the position, takes a huge time
commitment. It was not until after I received the news about our programs’
accreditation status that I decided to run for this position. With full accreditation
and no progress reports for the next eight years, I decided that I could devote the time needed to this project. Time was not the only factor that made this decision difficult. I
simply take very seriously the aspect of taking care of our money.
I realize that this position is much more than how much money do we have and where is it going. This position is indeed responsible for the money from the membership dues, conference
fees and the BEAP instrument. I do take that responsibility with a bit of compulsiveness.
This compulsiveness takes the form of checking figures and keeping up-to-date records.
But, I also realize that allocation of money for each committee, along with a certain amount of prediction for unanticipated
expenses, is a large part of the treasurer-elect position. For this, I hope to
rely on the wisdom of the membership. I think of this position as one involving
a great deal of responsibility, responsiveness to the membership of BPD, to the needs of committees, and openness to the membership. This is definitely an opened door position.
As a person who is responsible, responsive, open, and one who even likes to do my taxes, I feel that
I am uniquely qualified for this position. I am ready and willing to do this
for BPD. The time is now for me to move beyond the conference…attending
meetings, delivering papers and moderating. BPD is a group I have belonged to
and loved since 1987. I want to give back in a meaningful way. I hope you will
cast your vote for me for treasurer-elect.
