Faculty, students and staff of the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville, Social Work Program, were pleased to receive a visit
in March from Professor Mit Joyner, BPD President and Chairperson of the Undergraduate Social Work Program at West Chester
University. The purpose of Professor Joyner's visit was to recognize the University of Arkansas (U of A) for its support of
the Journal of Baccalaureate Social Work (JBSW). The U of A Social Work Program has housed JBSW for six years. BPD and the
U of A have co-published JBSW since its inception in 1995. The U of A Social Work Program is home to the JBSW Editor, Joe
Schriver, Assistant Editor, Bev Steimla, and Editorial Assistant, Heather Quinney.

Professor Joyner arrived late Sunday evening, March 4, after a weather-related flight delay.
Monday, March 5, began with Professor Joyner presenting plaques of recognition to Bob
Smith, Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs and Randall Woods, Dean of the
Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences. The presentation ceremony, held in Giffels Auditorium in Old
Main, was attended by students, faculty and staff representing several departments at
the U of A. The Provost and Dean graciously accepted the plaques and acknowledged the importance of the
partnership between the U of A and BPD and the significance of housing a nationally refereed journal at
the University of Arkansas. JBSW is recognized as one of the top four social work journals in the nation.
Following the ceremony, Professor Joyner spoke to students and other audience members about the
importance of research and its value to social work, and the importance of social workers doing research. A
luncheon after the presentation provided Professor Joyner the opportunity to visit with members of the
social work faculty and student leaders of the Social Work Action Group (SWAG). A tour of the campus, including
the JBSW Editorial Offices, and Fayetteville sights followed the luncheon. The day ended with a reception
for Professor Joyner at Joe and Cathy Schriver's home in Fayetteville. Professor
Joyner indicated the trip to the U of A was one of the highlights of her term as BPD President. We were
delighted she was able to visit our campus and see the home of JBSW.
