Research Task Force Report

Andrea M. Stewart, Co-chair

The BPD held a meeting on March 10, 2001, during the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) Conference. Mildred Joyner and Doug Burnham attended the meeting and discussed budget issues as well as research opportunities for baccalaureate social work educators. Mildred Joyner discussed plans to assist baccalaureate social work educators in proposal development and grant writing activities. Particularly, the John A. Hartford Foundation has a request for proposal focused upon geriatric enrichment in social work education programs. Proposals are due on November 16, 2001. A Board sponsored session entitled, "Grant Writing Opportunities
and Research" will be held on November 1, 2001, at the BPD Conference in Denver, Colorado. The presenters will include the co-chairs of the Research Task Force, Andrea Stewart and Murali Nair, Joan Levy Zlotnik and Nancy Hooyman. Baccalaureate social work educators who are interested in innovative ways to apply for funding from a variety of sources, including foundations, are encouraged to attend this session. Participants are requested to bring a disk and hard copy of their proposals for consultation and technical assistance. Also, the Research Task Force members present were provided grants and funding materials from the National Institute on Drug Abuse, National Institutes of Health, and Title IV-E training funds. Future plans of the Research Task Force will include surveying BPD members to obtain information regarding their research activities and grant funding secured, and availability of funding organizations and resources.
