Faculty are strongly encouraged to take advantage of Phase II of the CSWE SAGE-SW project faculty development opportunities
beginning in January. One and four-day faculty development institutes (FDIs) will be offered over the next three years, including
a four-day FDI, January 5-8, 2002 in Virginia, a one-day FDI at the CSWE Annual Program Meeting (APM) in Nashville, TN on
February 24, 2002, a four-day FDI in Seattle Washington, June 27- 30, 2002 and a one-day FDI at the 2002 Association of Baccalaureate
Social Work Directors (BPD) meeting in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Registration for one-day FDIs will occur through the conference
registration process (CSWE/APM and BPD). Information and registration for four-day sessions will be available online
at www.cswe.org/sage-sw in October. It is expected that participants at these sessions will be provided immediate and ongoing
curriculum resources, opportunity to revise foundation course syllabi to increase aging content, and a variety of technical
assistance over the course of the project. Faculty who attend the four-day institutes will receive a $900 stipend to help
defray travel and hotel costs.

Expert Faculty Chosen
Expert faculty have been selected to develop curriculum and FDI formats over the next year. The expert faculty include:
* Collette Brown, University of Hawaii * Charles Emlet, University of Washington * Pat Gleason-Wynn, University
of Texas, Arlington * Maria Hernandez-Peck, Eastern Washington University * Nancy Kropf, University of Georgia *
Carmen Morano, University of Maryland * Ruth Paton, University of Louisville * Andy Scharlach, University of California,
Berkeley * Terry Tirrito, University of South Carolina As part of the work to prepare curriculum resources and
FDI programs, the SAGE-SW project has been working to adapt its work regarding gerontology competencies (see www.cswe.org/sage-sw
<http://www.cswe.org/sage-sw> for competencies list). Dr. Roberta Greene of the University of Indiana and Dr. Colleen
Galambos of the University of Tennessee, Nashville are assisting SAGE-SW in adapting the gerontology competencies to the new
CSWE Educational Policy and Accreditation Statement (EPAS). The gerontology competencies, the result of a national survey
of social work practitioners and academics, will become learning objectives for FDIs and course syllabi in relation to the
new requirements of EPAS. The results of this activity will be shared on the CSWE/SAGE-SW website when it is completed.
